On Violence #5 / Iran – A Feminist Revolution and Beyond
A MERGE discussion in cooperation with HAU Hebbel am Ufer, and Bolangoo
MERGE is a collaborative research network bringing together scholars interested in (im)mobility of people, ideas, and commodities with a focus on the Middle East toward understanding social transformation in the region. It is based at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Research on Integration and Migration (BIM) at Humboldt University, Berlin.
Studying Middle Eastern mobility and diasporas remains deficient without producing original knowledge on the transformation in the region resulting from both mobilities – migration is becoming a key feature of Middle Eastern Societies– and mobilizations, i.e. social movements, protests, and revolutions, that force large numbers of people to migrate.
The cross-border flows, environmental challenges, war and conflicts, particularly across the Middle East, point to the urgency of a transnational approach for understanding regional dynamics. In this spirit, MERGE aspires to harness the power of collective thinking to expand the scope of conventional approaches and explore the burgeoning dynamics of mobility within and beyond the Middle East.
